You/True, Maybe/Baby, Cody White’s first collection of poetry, unblinkingly confronts us with concepts we’d rather not consider and aspects of ourselves we’d rather not acknowledge. But for all of this, it is not a book that is wholly negative and cold. Indeed, it disrupts itself with moments of genuine warmth. If it comes to us to strip us of our pretensions it does so that we may grow from questioning ourselves. If it so quick to call us out on what is false, it does so in search of the pure, even in the most impure of settings.
